Speaks 2 Inspire Hosts Successful Training Session to Support Youth Mental Health

This blog was written by Abraham Sculley, CEO, Speaks 2 Inspire:

At Speaks 2 Inspire, our commitment to eradicating mental health stigma and empowering individuals and organizations to prioritize mental well-being is at the heart of everything we do. Recently, we had the privilege of hosting a transformative training session for professionals who work with youth and young adults in Pensacola, FL. The experience was not only rewarding for me as the facilitator but also for the attendees who joined us in delving into crucial topics surrounding mental health, connection, and safety planning for young people.

Our training sessions are designed to be interactive and engaging, providing a safe space for participants to deepen their understanding of mental health issues and enhance their communication skills in supporting young individuals. Throughout the session, we explored a range of topics, including the importance of discussing mental health, practical frameworks for connecting with young people, intervention strategies for crisis situations, and the development of action plans with relevant resources.

We received positive feedback from attendees, with many expressing gratitude for the comprehensive and insightful training. One attendee shared in the survey form, “Highly recommended and important tools to help navigate with others.” It was heartening to see the impact of our efforts reflected in the reflections of those who joined the session.

Here are some highlights from the training content:

  • Participants learned the importance of initiating conversations about mental health to destigmatize the topic among young people.

  • Participants learned practical techniques to establish trust, form connections with young people, and create safe spaces for open communication.

  • Participants learned techniques to identify and support young people during a crisis.

  • Participants created customized action plans with tailored mental health resources, crisis hotlines, and local support networks.

As Speaks 2 Inspire continues its mission to eradicate the stigma surrounding mental health, we invite individuals and organizations to stay updated on future training opportunities and resources. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of young individuals and ensure they receive the support and guidance they need to thrive.
